Walk in the Spirit

This is Follow Jesus Radio encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: Walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16–17 (BSB):
"So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want."

To “walk in the Spirit” means to live under the control, direction, and power of the Holy Spirit rather than the sinful desires of the flesh. It is a daily, ongoing surrender—thinking, choosing, and acting according to God’s Word as the Spirit works within you.

Scripture is clear: there is a war within. The flesh—our fallen nature—craves sin. The Spirit produces holiness. These are in direct opposition. You cannot follow both at the same time. One will rule.

So how do you practically walk in the Spirit?

First, saturate your mind with Scripture. The Spirit works through the Word He inspired. As Psalm 119:11 teaches, hiding God’s Word in your heart guards you from sin.

Second, put sin to death quickly. Do not entertain sinful thoughts or desires. Confess and turn from them immediately (Romans 8:13). Starve the flesh; do not feed it.

Third, pursue obedience in the small things. Walking implies steps—daily choices to obey God in attitudes, words, and actions (Luke 16:10).

Fourth, stay in constant dependence on Christ. You are not self-sufficient. As Jesus says in John 15:5, apart from Him you can do nothing.

Finally, be in fellowship with sound, Bible-believing believers who will sharpen and exhort you (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Walking in the Spirit is not passive—it is active, intentional, and rooted in faith. And the promise is sure: as you walk in the Spirit, you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Turn from sin. Fix your eyes on Christ. And walk, step by step, in the power He provides.

That's it for this podcast. Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
