A City on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden
Matthew 5:14 (BSB):
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden."
There are days when you may feel that your faith is too weak, your circumstances too ordinary, or your influence too small to matter. But Jesus speaks tenderly and plainly to His disciples: “You are the light of the world.” He sees His people not merely in their weakness, but in what His grace is making them.
You are not the source of this light. Jesus alone is the true Light. Yet, by His mercy, He has drawn you out of the darkness of sin and brought you into His saving light. As you abide in Him, His life becomes visible in yours—in quiet faithfulness, patient words, sincere repentance, steady kindness, and courage to obey Him when obedience is costly.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Its lights offer direction to those traveling in darkness. In the same way, your life can point others to Christ. This does not require a platform, a perfect testimony, or extraordinary accomplishments. It may look like loving your family when you are tired, choosing honesty when no one would know otherwise, or speaking of the hope you have in Christ with gentleness and truth.
And when you fail, do not despair. Bring your sin into the light. Christ does not cast away those who come to Him in repentance and faith. He forgives, restores, and continues His good work in His people.
Today, simply ask the Lord to help you reflect Jesus where He has placed you. You do not need to shine for your own name. Let your life quietly and faithfully direct others to the Savior—the Light of the world.
