The Good Fight of Faith
2 Timothy 2:4 (KJV)
"No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."
As followers of Jesus, we are soldiers in a spiritual battle. But our greatest battle is not against people. We are called to stand for the gospel of Jesus Christ—the simple yet powerful message that salvation is found in Christ alone.
The enemy would love to distract us from that message. He sets traps through temptation, discouragement, fear, pride, and division. He seeks to weaken our walk with God, create conflict in our families, stir up tension at work, and lure us away through the desires of our own sinful nature.
That is why Paul tells us not to become entangled with the affairs of this life. A soldier who is constantly distracted cannot stay focused on the mission. Our mission is to know Christ, follow Christ, and make Him known.
The good news is that we do not fight in our own strength. Jesus Christ has already won the victory through His death and resurrection. As we stay close to Him, remain in His Word, and depend on the Holy Spirit, He gives us the strength to stand firm. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and never lose sight of the gospel that saves, transforms, and gives eternal life.
Let's pray:
Father, thank You for calling us to be soldiers of Jesus Christ. Help us to stay focused on the gospel and not become entangled in the distractions and temptations around us. Strengthen us to resist the enemy, to walk in obedience, and to honor You in our homes, at work, and everywhere You lead us. Thank You that Jesus has already won the victory for us through the cross and the empty tomb. Help us to stand firm in Him each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
