The Beginning of Good News

This is Follow Jesus Radio encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: The Beginning of Good News.

In Mark 1:1, the Gospel writer doesn't waste time with genealogies or long prefaces. He simply declares: “This is the beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” Often, we think of "news" as something we just hear or watch. But in the Bible, "Good News" (the Gospel) isn't just a story—it is God in action. It is the announcement that the Creator of the universe has stepped into time to perform a rescue mission that we could never perform ourselves.

What exactly is this Good News? According to the scriptures, it is four powerful movements of God:

1. God Revealing Himself: In Christ, the invisible God becomes visible. Through His Son, He reveals His perfect will and His heart of compassion. To see Jesus is to see the Father.

2. God Acting to Save: The Good News is God taking the initiative. We were trapped in sin, but God acted to save sinners. He didn't wait for us to find our way to Him; He made a way to us.

3. God Drawing the Lost: The Gospel is the sound of a Father calling His children home. Through Christ, God is actively drawing lost sinners back into relationship with Himself.

4. God Delivering from Wrath: Finally, the Good News is our deliverance. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we are spared from the weight of sin and the coming wrath of God.

Today, remember that the Good News isn't a "to-do" list; it's a "done" list. It is the finished work of Jesus Christ on your behalf.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the Good News. Thank You for acting through Your Son to rescue us and for drawing us near. Help us to walk in the joy of our deliverance today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

That's it for this podcast. Follow Jesus Radio is here 24 hours a day to encourage you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
