They Went Out From Us
Our Bible reading is from 1 John 2:19: “They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that it might be revealed that none of them belong to us.”
I have been thinking recently about how easy it is for one to depart from the Gospel message of Jesus and his Apostles if one does not make the teaching of Jesus the centerpiece of their life.
I remember what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Let's make it our goal to have faith in Jesus alone and follow Jesus alone.
My prayer today is: God, please help us to avoid the pitfalls of false religions, even false national religions, and keep our eyes on Jesus. His word is good enough for us. Amen.
