Welcome. My name is Richard Templin Hancock and I’m here to encourage you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. I'm glad you're here—let's walk this path together.

He Who Overcomes

He Who Overcomes

Revelation 3:4–5 (BSB)

“But you do have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments, and because they are worthy, they will walk with Me in white. Like them, he who overcomes will be dressed in white. And I will never blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father and His angels.”

I was reading today that those who overcome are those who remain faithful to Jesus Christ through the challenges and temptations of life. Their aim is to trust and obey Him, keeping their eyes on Jesus as they walk with Him daily.

Now, don't get me wrong. We all can fail and fall short of the mark. But overcomers are secure in Jesus, and they will always return to Him.

In John 10:28–29, Jesus gives us this wonderful promise:

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”

What a wonderful assurance! Our security rests in Jesus and the Father's keeping power.

1 John 5:4–5 (ESV) tells us:

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

That is why it is so important for us to encourage one another daily about our secure position in Christ. We overcome because Jesus overcame for us.

So, fellow follower of Jesus Christ, be encouraged. Keep your eyes on Jesus, remain faithful, and encourage others to do the same. You are not alone. Keep following Jesus!

The Dark Shadows

The Dark Shadows

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." — Psalm 23:4

This Bible verse ministered to me because I am assured that Jesus, my Good Shepherd, is with me when I am living under the shadow of death.

We face many shadows in our lives: rejection from others, personal failures, sickness, loss of jobs, broken relationships, and even the shadow of death as we face the end of our lives. Can you imagine facing any of these things alone without Jesus? But thank God, those of us who have faith in Jesus and follow Him daily have the promise of His presence and guidance. He is our Good Shepherd. No good thing will He withhold from us.

So let's remind each other today to look to our Savior, Friend, and Shepherd, Jesus Christ. May this day be filled with thoughts of Him and a deep awareness of His presence to help and guide us through whatever life brings our way.

Keep The Word Of Jesus

Keep The Word Of Jesus

John 14:23 (NKJV)

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

As followers of Jesus, we should remind each other to open our Bibles and read the words of Jesus. Reading a little bit each day helps keep us close to God and His Son, Jesus Christ. We even get to know the Holy Spirit better because He always reveals Jesus to us.

Jesus said in John 14:16–17:

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

Jesus also said in John 14:26:

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

How do we know the Holy Spirit? He always points us to Jesus.

God’s sheep will not listen to other voices—only their Shepherd’s. Our Lord said in John 10:27:

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

Spending time with Jesus—talking to Him and listening to Him speak to us in His Word—makes the heart happy and reminds us of our eternal, glorious future. Let’s look to Jesus and keep His Words today.

Accepted In The Beloved

Accepted In The Beloved
John 6:37 (BSB)

“Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never drive away.”

There are times when guilt, failure, loneliness, or the opinions of others can cause anyone to wonder, “Does God really accept me?”

If you have ever felt that way, Jesus offers a deeply comforting answer: anyone who comes to Him will never be driven away.

This truth means we never have to hide from Jesus when we fail. We do not need to make ourselves worthy of His love through religious effort or good works. Instead, we can draw near to Him honestly, repentantly, and with faith in Jesus alone.

Jesus bore the condemnation our sins deserved when He died on the cross. His righteousness is what we need—not our own.

Romans 8:1 (BSB)

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

What a wonderful promise!

Our standing before God is not based on how well we perform on any given day, nor is it dictated by whether we have a good day or a bad day. For all who belong to Jesus, acceptance before God rests entirely on what Jesus has done for us.

We are accepted in the Beloved.

This grace does not give us an excuse to continue in sin. Rather, God's grace gives us the freedom and desire to turn from sin and follow Jesus in grateful obedience.

In moments of failure, we can return to Jesus. In moments of feeling unworthy, we can look to Him. And whenever we wonder if God will receive us, we can rest in the promise of Christ—He will never drive us away.

If you do not know Christ, you can come to Him today. You do not need to clean yourself up first. Come to Him in repentance and faith, trusting in His death and resurrection. He is the One who saves, forgives, and receives all who draw near.

Acts 16:31

“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved...”

The Jesus Way

The Jesus Way

Psalm 119:37 ESV

“Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”

As I read the words, “give me life in your ways,” I was reminded that, for me, that is the Jesus way—the life of a disciple of Jesus.

The Jesus way is salvation in Jesus alone and following Jesus alone.

His Word, the Bible, gives us the blueprint for this way of life. All we have to do is open our New Testaments and start reading.

As we read God’s Word, we can rejoice and praise God for what Jesus did when He healed people and brought hope to those He ministered to. The lame were able to walk. The blind received their sight. People with skin diseases were healed instantly. The dead were raised to life. Sinners were forgiven and shown the way of life through the teachings of Jesus.

It is all right there in our Bibles.

If you don't have a Bible, get one and find out about the Jesus way.

Let's turn our eyes away from worthless things—man-made religion and philosophies—and seek the Jesus way.

I encourage you to turn to Jesus now. Put your faith in Him alone, receive His gift of salvation, and follow Him.

This is the Jesus way.

Pray for Changed Hearts

Pray for Changed Hearts

Deuteronomy 30:6 KJV says:

“And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.”

As I read this verse, I was reminded of people I know and love who seem resistant to the Gospel. Maybe there is someone like that in your life too. We can share the truth about Jesus, pray for them, and long to see them come to faith. But sometimes we wonder, “Will they ever believe?”

This verse gives me hope because it reminds me that God is the One who changes hearts.

We cannot make someone believe in Jesus. But we can pray and ask God to do what only He can do—to open their eyes, soften their hearts, and draw them to Jesus Christ.

So if there is someone on your heart today, don't give up praying. Ask God to bring them to repentance and faith in Jesus, who died for their sins and rose again.

The same God who changed hearts throughout Scripture is still changing hearts today.

If you are not yet trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation, turn to Him today. Believe in Him, repent of your sins, and follow Him.

Him Who Loves Us

Him Who Loves Us

Revelation 1:5 NIV

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.”

As I read this verse, I noticed those beautiful words: “Him who loves us.”

Think about the love of Jesus toward you right now. His love is there. He is there with you.

If you do not know the saving love of Jesus, I encourage you to trust Him alone to save you and forgive you for all your sins.

And if you know the Lord Jesus, take a moment to thank Him for all His loving acts toward you.

When considering the worst thing you may have to face, consider the worst thing our Lord Jesus had to face—the cross. He faced it for you.

Jesus said in John 15:13:

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

The love of Jesus is shown to us by His willingness to die for us.

Romans 5:8 says:

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

What a wonderful thought to carry with us today: Jesus loves us. He proved that love at the cross, and through His blood He has freed us from our sins.

If you have never trusted Jesus alone for salvation, trust Him today.

And if you already belong to Him, thank Him for His amazing love.

This is a special day—a day to remember that you are loved by Jesus.

A Life With Purpose

A Life With Purpose

Ephesians 1:11 KJV

“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.”

As I read that this morning, I was reminded that as believers in Jesus Christ, we have obtained an inheritance according to the purpose of God.

Our lives are not accidents. God’s chosen children have been given a beautiful purpose in life—having faith in Jesus Christ and following Jesus daily.

And what a privilege it is to experience the presence of our Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

People may try to tell us, or treat us, as if we have little or no value. But God says otherwise. We are of such value to Him that He sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to earth to take the punishment for our sins.

Our purpose is not measured by worldly accomplishments, possessions, or recognition.

Our purpose is to follow Jesus, obey His teachings, and give all the glory to God.

That is a life with purpose.

God Our Shield

God Our Shield

Psalm 5:12 NLT

“For you bless the godly, O LORD; you surround them with your shield of love.”

As I read this Bible verse this evening, I thought about how you and I can have confidence that God surrounds us with His protective shield of love wherever we go.

We are reminded in Psalm 3:3:

“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”

I love that. God lifts us up when we are down, and He is our refuge in times of trouble.

Psalm 18:30 says:

“This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”

And God even gives us our own personal shield for spiritual warfare—the shield of faith.

Ephesians 6:16 says:

“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.”

Thank God He is our shield. He is our defender and our refuge in times of trouble. And through faith in Jesus, He prepares us to stand firm when spiritual battles come.

So, fellow follower of Jesus, whatever you may be facing today, remember: God is your shield.

The Almighty

The Almighty

Revelation 1:8 KJV

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 1:8 is a powerful verse that emphasizes the sovereignty and eternal nature of God.

The Almighty God who appeared to Abraham is the same Almighty God we read about throughout Scripture.

Genesis 17:1

“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.”

And for those of us who have faith in Jesus Christ, we have this wonderful promise:

Psalm 91:1

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Think about that. We can dwell in the secret place of the Most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

And when we come out from among the influence of unbelievers, God gives us this promise:

2 Corinthians 6:18

“And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”

The Almighty God desires a relationship with every one of us. He desires that people turn to Him.

2 Peter 3:9 tells us that the Lord is patient, “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

So, if you do not know God, keep in mind that He is calling you to turn to Him and have a relationship with Him.

Trust in Jesus alone to save you, and follow Jesus alone.

Serve The Lord Wherever You Are

Serve The Lord Wherever You Are

Colossians 3:23-24 says:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

For those of us who have faith in Jesus Christ and are His disciples, this is a very encouraging word.

Wherever the Lord has placed us—whether we are working in an office, on a construction site, in a hospital, teaching in a classroom, serving in the military, raising a family, or doing something that may seem ordinary—we can live for Jesus right there.

Our job or position does not determine our importance. No one is unimportant in the kingdom of God.

Wherever Jesus has placed us, we can serve Him by aligning our lives with His teachings as revealed in the Bible.

So whatever you do today, do it wholeheartedly for the Lord Jesus. Remember, you are not simply serving people—you are serving the Lord Christ.

The Jesus Way

The Jesus Way

Psalm 119:37 ESV

“Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”

Reading the words, “give me life in your ways,” reminded me that, for me, that is the Jesus way—the life of a disciple of Jesus.

The Jesus way is salvation in Jesus alone and following Jesus alone.

His Word, the Bible, gives us the blueprint for this way of life. All we have to do is open our New Testaments and start reading.

As we read God's Word, we can rejoice and praise God for what Jesus did when He healed people and brought hope to those He ministered to. The lame were able to walk. The blind had their sight restored. People with skin diseases were healed instantly. The dead were raised to life. Sinners were forgiven and shown the way of life through the teachings of Jesus.

It is all right there in our Bibles.

If you don't have a Bible, get one and find out about the Jesus way.

Let's turn our eyes away from worthless things—man-made religion and philosophies—and seek only the Jesus way.

Let's remember what we are told in 1 John 2:5–6:

“But whoever keeps His word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in Him: whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.”

I encourage you to turn to Jesus now and follow Him.

When Jesus Calls You

When Jesus Calls You

Matthew 9:9 (BSB)

“As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. ‘Follow Me,’ He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.”

As I read this passage, I’m struck by something very simple: Matthew wasn’t looking for Jesus. He was sitting at his tax booth, living his life. But Jesus came to him.

What a beautiful picture of God’s grace in salvation.

Before we ever loved Jesus, God loved us. Before we ever chose Him, He chose us in Christ. Ephesians 1 tells us that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world. Romans 8 tells us that those whom He predestined, He also called, justified, and glorified.

That tells me that salvation is not ultimately about how well we found God. It is about how graciously God came looking for us.

We were dead in our sins and unable to save ourselves. But Jesus calls His own. He gives us spiritual life, opens our eyes to who He is, and creates faith in our hearts.

Matthew got up and followed Jesus because Jesus called him.

Fellow follower of Jesus, rejoice in this: your salvation did not begin with your hold on Jesus. It began with His hold on you.

And if Jesus is calling you today, don’t turn away. Repent of your sins, trust in Jesus Christ alone, and follow Him.

When Jesus calls you, follow Him.

A City on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden

A City on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden

Matthew 5:14 (BSB):

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden."

There are days when you may feel that your faith is too weak, your circumstances too ordinary, or your influence too small to matter. But Jesus speaks tenderly and plainly to His disciples: “You are the light of the world.” He sees His people not merely in their weakness, but in what His grace is making them.

You are not the source of this light. Jesus alone is the true Light. Yet, by His mercy, He has drawn you out of the darkness of sin and brought you into His saving light. As you abide in Him, His life becomes visible in yours—in quiet faithfulness, patient words, sincere repentance, steady kindness, and courage to obey Him when obedience is costly.

A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Its lights offer direction to those traveling in darkness. In the same way, your life can point others to Christ. This does not require a platform, a perfect testimony, or extraordinary accomplishments. It may look like loving your family when you are tired, choosing honesty when no one would know otherwise, or speaking of the hope you have in Christ with gentleness and truth.

And when you fail, do not despair. Bring your sin into the light. Christ does not cast away those who come to Him in repentance and faith. He forgives, restores, and continues His good work in His people.

Today, simply ask the Lord to help you reflect Jesus where He has placed you. You do not need to shine for your own name. Let your life quietly and faithfully direct others to the Savior—the Light of the world.

The Prayer Ends with God

 The Prayer Ends with God

Jesus teaches His people to pray with their eyes fixed not merely on their needs, but on God’s supreme rule and glory. The closing words traditionally associated with Matthew 6:13 declare: “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.”

This is the proper end of every prayer: not my kingdom, my power, or my glory—but God’s.

The kingdom is His. Christ reigns over every ruler, every trial, every unseen circumstance, and every moment of the future. Nothing can overthrow His purpose. The power is His. What is impossible for us is not difficult for the Almighty. He is able to save sinners, sustain His saints, forgive our sins, and keep us from falling. And the glory is His. Our lives, prayers, victories, and even our suffering exist ultimately to display the greatness of God.

When you pray, bring your real needs to the Father—but do not stop with your need. End with worship. Entrust every concern to the King whose authority never ends, whose power never fails, and whose glory will fill all things forever.

Remember: God is not a means to building your kingdom. You belong to His kingdom, live by His power, and exist for His glory.

You Are The Salt Of The Earth

You Are The Salt Of The Earth

Matthew 5:13 NKJV

“You are the salt of the earth…”

We are the salt of the earth because we have faith in Jesus Christ, follow Him, and follow His teachings daily.

Jesus tells us in John 10:27:

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

We are the salt of the earth because Jesus has made us that way. He sought us, forgave us, and makes us His disciples here on this earth to witness to His perfection and His message of salvation in Him alone.

What a secure place He has placed us in! No one can take us from Jesus or our Heavenly Father.

John 10:28–29 says:

“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”

So rejoice today, believer in Christ, that Jesus has made you the salt of the earth—and that you belong to Him.

The Peacemaker

The Peacemaker

Matthew 5:9 ESV

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

As I was reading this word from Jesus this morning I thought of how we as believers in Jesus can be peacemakers by introducing people to the one who brings peace to their hearts, our Jesus.

Jesus said in John 14:27 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

This peace comes from a heart transformed by Christ Jesus. Why, even the very supernatural presence of Jesus in our lives brings great peace.

Jesus said in John 14:27 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Isn't that wonderful? Jesus leaves His peace with us. He doesn't give it and then take it back.

Let's encourage each other to be a Peacemaker for Jesus today. And if you don't know Christ, then turn to Him now and trust Him alone to forgive you and restore you to your Heavenly Father.

In Christ Jesus

In Christ Jesus

1 Corinthians 1:30–31 ESV

“And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”

As I was reflecting on this today, these words caught my attention: “And because of him you are in Christ Jesus...”

It is because of our Heavenly Father that we are in Christ Jesus.

Jesus says in John 6:44:

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”

And again in John 6:65:

“And he said, ‘This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.’”

What a gift so wonderful and so free—the gift of Jesus in our hearts!

And this gift gives us rest as we walk away from all our self-efforts to gain acceptance with God and trust in the sacrifice of Jesus as the only sacrifice God accepts to make us right with Him.

Hebrews 4:9–10 guarantees us:

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.”

I hope these truths will be a blessing to you today as you purpose in your heart to follow your Savior, Jesus Christ.

Let's pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for drawing us to Jesus and giving us the wonderful gift of salvation in Him. Help us to rest in Jesus and trust completely in His finished work, rather than our own efforts. Help us keep our eyes on Jesus and follow Him each day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Holy Spirit Reminds Us Of The Words Of Jesus

The Holy Spirit Reminds Us Of The Words Of Jesus

John 14:26 BSB

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

Thank God for the Holy Spirit, who always brings us to Jesus and reminds us of His words and teachings.

And thank God that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever!

John 14:16 tells us:

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—”

Thank God the Holy Spirit is faithful to testify about Jesus.

John 15:26 says:

“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me.”

Remember what Jesus says in John 14:26?

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

What a wonderful Helper and companion the Holy Spirit is!

Let us ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognize His presence and leading today, and to remind us of the words of Jesus so we can follow Him faithfully.
