Our Cup Of Blessing
Psalm 16:5 NLT“LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.”
Psalm 16:5 teaches us that the Lord Himself is the believer’s inheritance and cup of blessing. Our truest treasure is not found in earthly possessions, circumstances, or accomplishments, but in God Himself.
All of our spiritual blessings are found in Jesus Christ. As 1 Corinthians 1:30 declares, God has united us with Christ, who has become for us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. In Christ, we are made right with God, set apart for holiness, and freed from sin’s guilt and dominion.
What, then, does God guard? He faithfully keeps His people and preserves the saving blessings He has graciously given us in Christ. He promises us His abiding presence (Matthew 28:20), His help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1), and His faithful provision for our needs (Matthew 6:31–33; Philippians 4:19).
Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38–39).
Jesus has also promised that He will return and receive His people to Himself (John 14:2–3). Our final hope is not merely an escape from this world, but eternal fellowship with our Savior in the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21:1–4).
And by God’s grace, we can overcome—not through our own strength, but through faith in Jesus Christ, who has already overcome the world (John 16:33; 1 John 5:4–5).
So, fellow follower of Jesus, remember where your true blessing is found. Your greatest treasure is not what you possess, but who possesses you—Jesus Christ.
The Lord is your inheritance. He is your cup of blessing. In Christ, you have every spiritual blessing necessary for salvation, perseverance, holiness, and the certain hope of eternal life (Ephesians 1:3).
Whatever today may bring, let us be thankful that our cup is filled with the goodness and grace of God through Jesus Christ.
Our cup of blessing is Christ Himself.
